The Geometry of Nine: Why I Built a Company on Two Maps
I thought I named my company after a personality type. Then I realized I was naming it after a blueprint.
The "Ness" of Nine
When I started Clearly 9, the name felt like an anchor. As an Enneagram 9, I’ve spent my life navigating the 'Peacemaker's' terrain—the desire for harmony, the tendency to merge, and the struggle to stay awake to my own life. I wanted to create something that brought clarity to that specific experience."
From Personality to Energy
"And then, I found another 9. In Human Design, there are 9 energy centers that govern how we move through the world. Discovering this wasn't just a coincidence; it was a confirmation. If the Enneagram told me what I was doing (peacemaking, avoiding conflict), Human Design showed me the plumbing behind it—the open doors and the defined channels that make 'being a 9' feel the way it does."
Why "Framework" Isn't the Right Word
I hesitate to call these 'frameworks.' Frameworks sound like cages or rigid structures you have to fit inside. Instead, I see them as Mirrors and Maps.
The Mirror: Both systems offer a sometimes difficult reflection. They show us where we fall asleep, where we amplify others' chaos, and where we hide.
The Map: They provide a route back to ourselves. They don't change who we are; they show us how to be the best version of the unique person we already are.
The "Open Door" Philosophy
The most transformative realization was this: My 'open' centers, the parts of me that feel like 'Mental Fog' or 'Emotional Fire', aren't broken. They are Open Doors.
As a 9, the goal isn't to slam those doors shut (we can't anyway). The goal is to become a discerning host. We get to choose who and what is allowed to walk through. We move from being a 'sponge' that soaks up everyone’s mess to being a 'screen' that lets the breeze in without letting the bugs stay.
